EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is the very cumbersome name of a powerful and beneficial treatment.  This treatment is most well-known for its effectiveness with recent, serious trauma (threats or perceived threats to life, such as car accidents, home invasion, car-jacking, rape) and post-traumatic stress disorder.  However, the evidence is growing to support its use also for the other challenges, such as depression, anxiety, OCD, panic, phobias and many more.

Through a process of alternately stimulating the right and left sides of the brain, EMDR seems to encourage a natural process of healing.  As a result, strong, negative emotional memories—the kind that often negatively and unconsciously influence us--are neutralized. This makes way for new perceptions, choices and behaviors to emerge.  Memories that were once laced with strong painful emotions can be integrated without the reactive emotional burden that interferes with life choices.
